Dune Allen – Dune Allen was reconstructed in large part after 1995 following Hurricane Opal which destroyed many of the long-standing small concrete block homes along the coast. We see some that remained amid the towering new beach homes tucked away among the large, multi-family homes in the dunes. These harken back to the days when Dune Allen was a popular holiday spot.

Old timers tell tales of families who would come for picnics along the shores of Oyster Lake to find the water level too high. One can still see where trenches were dug from the lake to the Gulf of Mexico to allow greater areas for recreation and picnics, although digging of such trenches is not encouraged today.
